Number of Open Slots: 20

Requirements: Previously attended encampment, be at least 14 by the start of the activity

Cost: $475

A fast-paced, hands-on activity that will encourage high school aged participants to get excited about the growing field of STEM. Students will be introduced to the design-build-test cycle, communications in a multidisciplinary design team, and the foundation of aerodynamics by working in teams of five to create a helium blimp, which will compete in tests of speed and agility at the end of the week.

Cadets will stay on campus at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, July 8-16, 2017 for the week, living in one of the freshman dorms. Mornings will involve classes about ethics in engineering, technical writing, and the different types of engineering, while afternoons have students in the lab working on their blimps, and evenings are filled with fun activities like a game night, a trip to the historic State Theater, and a night out on the town during the annual Ann Arbor summer festival. Each day will involve a new lab to be completed before working on the Blimp.

To apply: Fill out a CAP Form 31, get the appropriate signatures, and email it to jessica.deangelo@cap.usafaux.us by March 1st at 23:59 EST.

Anyone questions can be directed to the Activity Director Capt Jessica DeAngelo at (734) 674-8660 or jessica.deangelo@cap.usafaux.us.
